Bio

Alex Herbst is a consummate professional, with high aspirations to become one of the leading broadcast meteorologist in the United States. With ample training and education, and vested interests both inside and outside the field, he is the epitome of the hard working, determined individual that would be a great fit with any station or company.

With a drive to be a meteorologist since he was young, Herbst graduated from Plymouth State University in May 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in meteorology, with minors in political science and technical mathematics. In the fall, he will begin his efforts to obtain his Master’s Degree in geosciences, with a focus in broadcast meteorology at Mississippi State University. He is also actively working in the field, serving as a freelance weather forecaster for Spot On Weather LLC, based in New Jersey.

Sports writing has also become a passion Alex Herbst pursued in recent years. After a number of years writing for a friend’s website, he branched out to write for Last Word on Sports, focusing on motorsports. Quickly rising through the ranks to lead their NASCAR and IndyCar coverage, Alex became one of their senior motorsports editors before departing the site in March 2016. He then joined Beyond the Flag, a part of the FanSided network that same month, covering a broad spectrum of motorsports series.

In addition, leadership has been something that he connected strongly with in high school and college. He previously served as the student representative to the North Brunswick Board of Education for two years, then continuing that involvement with student government in college at Plymouth State University. Beginning as a hall senator, Herbst worked hard to make a difference at my school and in the community, rising to the roles of Student Body President and Senior Class President by senior year. He continued his leadership development by serving on the Council of Students for the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, ending in June 2016.
