Bio

Jamie  C. Williamson, PhD is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family, Circuit-Civil, and County-Civil Mediator, a member of the Florida Academy of Professional Mediators, and Managing Partner of Amity Mediation Workshop, LLC .

Dr. Williamson serves as a contract mediator for Florida's First and Fourteenth Circuit Courts for Domestic Relations/Family cases and as a Florida Supreme Court Qualified Arbitrator, available for non-binding arbitration panels.  She also is a Family Mediation Assistant Trainer and a Circuit-Civil Mediation Subject Matter Expert, approved by the Florida Supreme Court's Dispute Resolution Center.

When mediating family cases, Dr. Williamson is a solutions-focused, transformative mediator who draws on her own family conflict research, her deep understanding of relationships, and her ethic of care, all of which come together as she empowers couples to simplify and de-stress the divorce process, remain friendly during and after the divorce, and to resolve issues in a way that serves the needs of all involved.

Dr. Williamson uses the Gottman Method Couples Therapy approach in her marriage revitalization work with couples.  She also is a Gottman Leader authorized to deliver the Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work Couples Program and to use the Gottman Relationship Checkup when working with couples in her own “Let’s Stay Together” Marriage Refresher Course, which she developed and delivers.  She authors the blog “Work it Out” which focuses on relationship improvement issues.  Dr.  Williamson also is a frequent blogger for She Savvy and a contributor to the Huffington Post.

In the civil mediation arena, specializes in workplace issues and business/professional disputes.  She adeptly blends her extensive senior-level leadership experience and her scholarship and professional practice in conflict resolution and ADR practices to help parties reach agreement and continue working together, minimizing the human impact of the dispute, as well as the need for more formal legal remedies.

Dr. Jamie C. Williamson joined the mediation profession after a career in corporate communication, higher education,  relationship counseling,  and leadership development.  She worked in public affairs for large corporations, then decided to re-focus on higher education. After completing her doctorate, she served as a communication professor at the University of Florida and the University of West Florida. Later, she served as a professor and dean at Saint Louis University; as vice president for academic affairs at Baker University, Millikin University, and Butler University, and as president of Winthrop University. She also provided professional development for university senior leaders as director of the Executive Leadership Group at the American Council on Education in Washington D.C.

Dr. Williamson earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Communication from the School of Communication at Illinois State University and completed her Doctorate from the College of Social and Behavioral Science at the University of Arizona.   She is a member of the International Communication Association, Phi Kappa Phi,  and serves her community through a variety of philanthropic organizations and initiatives supporting education and families.
