Bio

Aisha L. Abdul Rahman is a passionate advocate for education, heritage preservation, and the power of knowledge to bridge cultural divides. She is an accomplished professional in the fields of archiving, genealogy, and cultural heritage, and her journey is marked by a commitment to lifelong learning and a dedication to preserving and sharing the rich tapestry of African and African American history and culture.

Aisha's academic journey led her to obtain a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree, specializing in heritage preservation with a focus on virtual worlds. Her dedication to heritage preservation is exemplified by her role as an archivist at the Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum in Sacramento, California, where she has been instrumental in curating and preserving cultural artifacts that celebrate African and African American heritage.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Aisha's personal journey is equally inspiring. She embarked on a transformative adventure to reconnect with her African ancestry, a journey that culminated in her obtaining dual citizenship in Sierra Leone through genetic genealogy proof with African Ancestry. This unique experience deepened her understanding of the importance of heritage preservation and compelled her to share this knowledge with others.

Aisha's commitment to education extends to her role as the founder of Legacy Designs Studio, a non-profit art gallery based in the virtual world of Second Life. This innovative venture allows her to leverage technology to create immersive educational experiences, furthering her mission to make heritage and cultural knowledge accessible to all.

Her impact is not confined to the virtual realm; Aisha is a prominent figure in her local community. She served as a project manager and curator for the Atrium 916 during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating her dedication to supporting the arts and creative endeavors. She also volunteered with the Creativity+ podcast and has been a guest at the Sacramento Creative Economy Meetings.

Aisha's recent graduation from the iSchool at San José State University with an MLIS degree, with a specialization in the management, digitization, and preservation of cultural heritage and records, underscores her commitment to professional growth and excellence.

Aisha's multifaceted experiences and unwavering commitment to preserving cultural heritage make her a valuable addition to this esteemed academic society.

In all her endeavors, Aisha Abdul Rahman continues to embody the principles of Phi Kappa Phi - excellence, integrity, and a dedication to lifelong learning.
